Visitor data
Inquest Index does not require you to create an account and does not use advertising services. We use Google Analytics for anonymous usage statistics (see below). We do not otherwise collect personal data from visitors to this site.
Our hosting infrastructure (Railway) may log IP addresses and basic request metadata (timestamps, URLs requested) as part of standard server operation. These logs are used solely for security monitoring and debugging, are not shared with third parties, and are automatically deleted after 30 days.
Cookies & analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (page views, referrers, approximate location). Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish unique visitors and track sessions. These cookies do not contain personal information and are not used for advertising.
You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by using your browser's built-in cookie controls. We do not use any other cookies, advertising trackers, or cross-site tracking.
Inquest schedule data
This site publishes inquest schedule information sourced from official coroner court websites operated by local authorities across England and Wales. This data includes the names of deceased persons, hearing dates, times, venues, and coroner names.
Deceased persons are not data subjects under UK GDPR. However, we recognise the sensitivity of this information to families and loved ones. The data we publish is already in the public domain via official council websites. We aggregate it in the public interest (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(e)) to improve transparency and accessibility of the coronial system.
Where inquest listings include the names of living individuals (such as coroners or other officials), this data is published in their professional capacity and is sourced from official public records.
Your rights
If you are named in an inquest listing and have concerns about how your information appears on this site, please contact us. We will respond within 30 days.
Since we source all data from official public records, any corrections or removals should also be directed to the originating coroner's office, as we re-collect data daily.
